Department of Children and Families

The Department of Children and Families (DCF) delivers services to a population of approximately 220 000 people in an area covering more than 1.3 million square kilometres. The Department of Children and Families is the provider of statutory child protection services in the Northern Territory (NT) and consists of five program areas:

   •  Child Protection Services
   •  Alternative Care Services
   •  Family and Individual Support
   •  Youth Services
   •  Policy and System Support

We provide services to enhance the protection of children at risk of harm, and support families, young people and communities in strengthening and maintaining social cohesion. Over the past five years the Department has undertaken a range of reforms in various areas, driven by a number of report recommendations. All reforms are undertaken with the express purpose of improving the provision of, and access to, services for families and children. The most recent inquiry is the Inquiry into the Child Protection System in the Northern Territory 2010.

We are currently recruiting a range of skilled staff across the NT to ensure that our commitment to child protection can be met. An understanding of Aboriginal culture is essential, as staff will be working with children, young people and families in both urban and remote regions. If you are interested in a role within DCF, call our Recruitment Hotline on 1800 726 549, or Email Us.
